BOYCOTT WILL SMITH, NOT THE OSCARS, UNTIL HE DOES MORE FOR BLACK ACTORS

They want to complain about black actors being excluded, yet the Smiths have never really fought for African-Americans to play a larger role in Tinseltown.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are the last people who should be leading a protest against the Academy Awards. All of a sudden, they want to fight for more minority representation at the Oscars because not a single black actor or director was nominated in any of the major film categories this year. Yet the Smiths and their allies like Spike Lee haven’t done anything to make Hollywood more diverse.

They have enjoyed making millions of dollars in La-La Land by acquiescing to the lily-white film studios that produce their blockbuster movies. They hobnob with Scientologists and other Hollywood cults because they want to be part of the club. The Smiths didn’t care about black people being represented at the Oscars until the former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air got snubbed for his leading role inConcussion.

Now they’ve got Lee all riled up, because he’s always looking for a bullshit cause to prove his blackness. As Hollywood’s resident Al Sharpton, Lee has signed on to the Smith boycott.

The truth is the Smiths are upset because Will was passed over by people he and his wife believed were their friends. They want to complain about black actors and black actresses being excluded, yet the Smiths have never really fought for African-Americans to play a larger role in Tinseltown. Heck, they do more to hurt other black actors.

When he was starring on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Smith had problems with actress Janet Hubert, who played his aunt on the popular TV show, so he had her replaced. In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Hubert said that at auditions she still deals with questions about being difficult to work with because of that drama.

She also said this to the Smiths: “You could do more for the industry and for black Hollywood than anyone could. You could be mentoring young screenwriters. You could be setting up a program. You have the ability to do so much.”

They could also finance more black filmmakers and movies geared toward African-American audiences. Movies targeting black audiences starring Ice Cube or Cedric the Entertainer made with $5 million to $10 million budgets always make triple the profits at the box office.

If Will and Jada don’t start working to help other black entertainers, it’s time to boycott the Smiths’ movies.
